Is it possible to patch tears in a leather couch?

We have a couch that has tears in the back cushions (which are attached to the couch) and it is not very feasable for me to take the entire couch to a professional shop. Does anyone know of a way I can repair the tears at home? My main concern is patching them before they get any bigger.

You would be better off if you could call a 'leather repair shop' that does 'patching' like this and tell them that the couch is simply 'way too heavy' to transport ... and ask them if they have someone they can 'send out' to do the repair 'properly' or have a truck that they can 'put the couch in' to take it to their shop to repair it, and then bring it back. You may have to call several places, but I've needed 'quick repairs' and have found several places that are REALLY NICE and REALLY HELPFUL ... generally, you'll want a place that does both 'motor vehicle leather' and also 'upholstery leather' even if what you have 'torn' is just a leather jacket.
